Ans: The future scarcity of the energy sources on the earth due to the over population,urbanization and industrialization is called energy crisis.

d. What is meant by defect of vision?
Ans: Defect of vision is the loss of power of accommodation of the human eye.

e. What is filament?
Ans: The thin wire in an electric bulb that produces light is called the filament.

f. State Mendeleev’s  periodic law?
Ans: Mendeleev’s periodic law states that ” The  properties are a periodic function of their atomic mass.”


g. What is base ? Write any two examples of it.
Ans: Base  is defined as a chemical compound which has a bitter taste and a pH value more than 7. Examples are sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2 ].

h. Write the structural formula of glycerol?
Ans: The structural formula of glycerol is CH2OH-CHOH-CH2OH.

i. Write the full form of PVC and DDT?
Ans: The full form of PVC is Polyvinyl chloride and  the full form of DDT is Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane.

j. Which pair of sex chromosome is found in male?
Ans: The sex chromosome found in male is one X and one Y chromosome i.e XY chromosome.

2. An iron nail sinks in water but a ship made up of iron floats on water. Why?
Ans: The weight of the water displaced by the ship is equal to its weight, so it floats. Whereas the weight of the water displaced by the iron nail is less than its weight so the iron nail sinks.

3. Write any two differences between renewal and non renewable source of energy.
Ans: The two differences between renewal and non renewable source of energy are :

These resources of energy are renewed by nature in short span of time .These resources are not renewed in short time but takes long geological time to be formed again.

Ans:  The specific heat capacity of Mercury is 140 J/kg°C it means that 140 J of  heat is needed to increase the temperature of 1 kg of mercury by 1℃.

9. What will happen if outer covering of an aeroplane is made of iron instead of aluminium? Write along with reason.
Ans: If  outer covering of an aeroplane is made of iron then it may be difficult to make a flight due to its heavier weight  and also rusting may occur easily on iron. So aluminium is preferred instead of iron to make its outer covering.

10. Why is silkworm called beneficial insect?
Ans: Silkworm is called beneficial insect because  they produce high quality silk fiber which is used to weave clothes, shawls and expensive clothing.

11. Pancreas is also  called mixed gland , why?
Ans:  Pancreas is also  called mixed gland because it  has both Exocrine function (  Produces enzymes that help with digestion) and Endocrine function ( Sends out hormones that control the amount of sugar in our bloodstream) .

12. If a piece of stem is planted, it grows into a new plant, which type of reproduction is it? Write any one advantage of such  reproduction.
Ans: If a piece of stem is planted, it grows into a new plant, it is asexual reproduction of plants .
It’s advantage is that an  enormous number of organisms can be produced in very less time.

13. Write any two differences between male gamete and female gamete.

14. A comet loses its tail  when it goes far away from Sun. Give reason.
Ans: The tail of the comet is gas and dust boiled off by the heat  of the sun , if a comet  goes far away from the sun then  no new tail material is emitted . Hence a comet loses its tail when it goes away from Sun .

15. If the mass of a moon  is 7.2× 10^22 kg  and radius is 1.7 ×10^6 m . What will be the acceleration due to gravity of the moon? What will be the weight on the moon of a person having weight 40 kg mass?
Ans: Given,
Mass of the moon (M)= 7.2×10^22 kg
Radius of the moon (r)= 1.7× 10^6 m
Gravitational constant (G )= 6.67×10^ -11 Nm^2kg^−2)

Now,
Acceleration due to gravity ( g) =Gm /r^2
=6.67×10^-11 ×7.2×10^22 /( 1.7× 10^6)^2
=1.67 m/s^2
Hence, the acceleration due to gravity of moon is 1.67m/s^2
And, The weight of a person on moon having 40kg mass i.e (w)= mg= 40×1.67=66.8 N
Hence , The weight of a person on moon will be 66.8N.

16. Observe the ray diagram of  an eye given in the figure and answer the following questions.

Ans: The compost fertilizer is organic fertilizer because compost is produced by combining organic materials such as food scraps, yard waste, manures, or crop residues and adding aeration and water as needed to accelerate the process by which the materials break down and form a mature compost product.

19.  How does artificial reproduction help in the excess production of fruits?
Ans: Artificial reproduction techniques contribute to the excess production of fruits by improving the efficiency of plant breeding and increasing the yield of desirable fruit varieties. These techniques include cross-pollination, hybridization, cloning, vegetative propagation, and tissue culture.

20. Describe about the sources of air pollution and also mention  the controlling measures of air pollution.
Ans:  The sources of air pollution are :
i. Industrial emissions: Industries emit various pollutants such as sulfur dioxide ,  nitrogen oxides , volatile organic compounds ,  and particulate matter  into the air.
ii. Vehicle emissions: The combustion of fossil fuels in vehicles releases pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides and  hydrocarbons (HC) into the atmosphere.
iii. Agricultural activities: Agricultural practices like crop burning, use of fertilizers and pesticides, and livestock farming can release pollutants into the air.


The control measures of air pollutions are :
i. Implementing emission control technologies in industries and vehicles can significantly reduce air pollution.
ii. Shifting to  renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower can help reduce air pollution associated with the combustion of fossil fuels.
iii. Strict regulations and enforcement should be implemented by the government.

21. Study the given diagram and answer the following questions.


i. Calculate the number of turns  in secondary core.
ii. Write one use of this type of transformer.
iii. What is used to laminate its core?
Ans:
i. Given,
Voltage in primary core (Vp)= 220 v
No. Of turns in primary core ( NP) = 1000
Voltage in secondary core (Vs)= 110 v
No. Of turns in secondary core (Ns)= ?
We know ,
Vs/VP =Ns/Np
Ns=Vs/Vp×Np = 110/220 ×1000 = 500
Therefore Ns= 500 turns .
ii. Ans. Step down transformer is used in power adaptors.

iii. Silicon steel is used to laminate its core .

22. Describe the manufacturing process of cement.
Ans: The process of cement manufacturing involves following steps:
i. Mining and Grinding of Raw Materials: Limestone, clay, shale, and other minerals are extracted from quarries and transported to the cement plant. These raw materials are crushed and ground into a fine powder.

ii. Preheating and Pre-calcining: The powdered raw materials are fed into a preheater tower, where they are heated to high temperatures. This preheating process removes moisture and prepares the raw materials for the kiln.
iii. Clinker Formation: The preheated raw materials are then fed into a rotating kiln, where they undergo a chemical reaction called calcination. At temperatures around 1450 degrees Celsius, the raw materials react and form small, marble-sized nodules called clinker.
iv. Grinding of Clinker: The clinker is cooled and stored, and then mixed with gypsum and other additives, such as fly ash or slag. These additives help regulate the setting time and improve the quality of the final cement product. The mixture is finely ground to produce cement powder.
v. Packaging and Distribution: The cement powder is stored in silos and then packed into bags or loaded into bulk trucks or railcars for distribution to construction sites or retailers.
