Schools and colleges are the places where we get education. Our first school is our own home and the first teachers are our parents . After we are able to walk and speak fluently , we are send to schools for better education. We learn many things at our schools. We spend half of our life at schools when we are a child. We are taught different subjects by different teachers . The motto of all subjects is to enhance our knowledge.
Whatever we are taught are according to the curriculum of any particular subject. Curriculum gives a way to teach the children according to the level or grade of children. Although curriculum teaches what we need but it cannot provide us sufficient knowledge. It cannot cover up overall development of a child . Curriculum teaches us to speak fluently, to behave well with others, to read and write and so on .But still there are many things that our curriculum cannot teach us.
Advantages of extra curricular activities
As curriculum cannot teach all things that a child should learn. Extra curricular activities should be introduced in schools and colleges. Playing, singing , dancing , gardening, knitting and conducting programs come under extra curricular activities . There are many advantages of extra curricular activities . They teach meaningful lessons to the students. Like playing games can help a child to build leadership skills. He will learn how to handle a team, how to communicate with them and how to convince them. He will learn to observe the behaviour of the players on his team and can suggest ideas to do better. Moreover , playing games will keep a child physically, mentally and emotionally strong . He can better focus on his study if he is mentally and physically healthy.
Singing and dancing enhances the talent within a child. A child can find out and express his talent to the mass of people. He can also make career later in the future by his talent . In the same way knitting will develop a skill in a child. He can make money by such skill at the same time of studying or in the future. Gardening will teach a child to grow fresh and healthy vegetables . It will teach a child to eat healthy vegetables . He can also apply it at home what he learns at his school . Conducting competition programs like a speech contest , debate programs , writing competition and so on will increase confidence in a child . These activities will bring a lot of changes in a child.
Disadvantages of extra curricular activities
Also there are few disadvantages of extra curricular activities . Children may not focus on study instead they may just think of playing, singing, dancing and so on. They may lose discipline. They may not obey their teachers . They may misbehave with teachers. If children does such then there will be a big problem . The environment of teaching and learning will be lost.
Overall extra-curricular activities are very important in schools and colleges. Although there are some disadvantages of such activities, they teach great lesson to the children in their life. Such activities can help children to build many skills and can get knowledge. Such activities can create beautiful memories of past. So there is a great need of extra curricular activities in schools and colleges.
