Deforestation is the process of chopping down the trees in massive number. The word “deforestation” is the antonym of the word “forestation” which means planting of trees in massive number. Trees make our surrounding greenery. They provide us oxygen and take carbon dioxide from the surrounding. Trees make our surrounding’s air fresh.
We are alive on this planet because of trees. All the living creatures on this planet are directly or indirectly dependent on trees. Trees provide us food to survive, they provide us shelter , fodder for animals, firewood for cooking and so on. They provide fruits which keep us healthy. They play important role in maintaining the ecosystem of the environment. They play important role in the water cycle. Not only this, they also provide food and shelter to the wildlife .
Deforestation is the major issue of the world. People are destroying forest and using the land for shelter. They are using the land for making industries . Some people use the land for agriculture. Destroying the forest is not good act. It is evil act to destroy the forest. Deforestation is increasing as the demand of products manufactured using raw materials of forest is increasing. The more the population growth , the more the demand of products , agricultural land and land for settlement . People are cutting down the trees without knowing the negative impacts that can be caused in the future .
Some people do illegal business of some strong and precious woods. They destroy forest in order to earn more money . They sell woods illegally by hiding from the government. They only see money not the impact of destruction of forest. The selfishness of people leads to destruction of forest.
There are many negative impacts of deforestation. But people don’t think of it. They just want their needs to be fulfilled. The harmful impacts of deforestation are mentioned below:
- Global Warming: We all are facing the problem of global warming. The climate and weather have changed . Sometimes the temperature of earth is too high and sometimes it is too low. The Seasons are delayed due to global warming. There is untimely rainfall. As temperature is increasing on the earth, the Ice is melting on the mountains and the level of sea is increasing.
- Water cycle imbalance : Due to deforestation there is imbalance in the water cycle of the earth. There is untimely rainfall. Sometimes it rains excessively and sometimes it does not rain. The ratio of water in soil and atmosphere is imbalanced. Due to imbalance in water cycle, the production of crops is affected.
- Extinction of Wildlife : Forest is the habitat of wildlife. Many animals, birds, insects and small creatures live in forest. When forest is cleared up, the habitat of wildlife living there is also cleared up. Finally they die due to lack of shelter. Moreover, wildlife get their food from forest. When forest is destroyed , they cannot get food and die due to starvation.
- Natural calamities : Deforestation leads to natural calamities like soil erosion, land slide, floods and so on. Forest holds the soil tightly. It does not allow soil to move either by wind or water. But if there are no trees then soil is easily washed away by water. Floods can come to residential area and damage the property.
Remedies for Deforestation
The problem of deforestation is increasing in the world. It should be stopped . The government should take strict action on this . Those who do illegal business of woods should be punished. The Rapid growth of population should be controlled. Due to Rapid population growth , the demand of products manufactured using the raw materials of forest is increased. We should plant trees on our surrounding . We should plant trees in place of the trees we cut.
