Essay on Garbage Management

The things that are of no use are called waste substances. In other word, they are also called garbage. Garbage can be of any form and size . Garbage can be plastics , metals, tree leaves ,vegetable residues and so on. Wastes maybe in solid, liquid or gaseous state.

Today the problem of garbage management is increasing . Big cities of a country face this problem. In context of our country Nepal , big cities like Biratnagar , Kathmandu , Pokhara and so on are facing problems regarding garbage management. This is due to various reasons. The population density of city areas is very high . People of remote areas move to city areas for multi-purposes. Some go for business purpose, some for getting health services, some for education and so on. The administrative works of the country are done in city areas so people migrate to city areas from their birthplace i.e remote areas.

Problems of garbage management

Due to high population density, the consumption of products is also high. So the production of wastes is also high. Moreover, the factories and industries are present in city areas. They produce large volume of waste substances along with usable products. They produce different forms of wastes like solid waste, liquid waste and gaseous waste. Carbon dioxide and harmful gases released by them pollute the environment. The solid and liquid wastage produced by them are thrown to river sides which also pollute the rivers.

Due to unplanned urbanization and unplanned housing the beauty of city is destroyed and it is very difficult to manage garbage production over there. People are not aware of it. The garbage produced at homes are not properly managed. The shops beside the roads throw the waste of their shops on the roads. They don’t even think that the place is getting dirty. They just think of keeping their shops clean but not outside of their shops.

The garbage produced at homes are not separated into decomposible and non decomposible wastes. All are mixed up and thrown in dustbins which is not good. The wastage should be distinguished at home before throwing them to dumping site. The dumping site should be far away from residential place. The factories and industries should be established far away from residential place. If possible, we should make compost manure of decomposible wastes. Unplanned urbanization should be discouraged.

The government should pay special attention on the topic of garbage management . Awareness program should be conducted on various places of the country specially city areas. The government should make strict rules for shopkeepers who sell their products beside roads. They should not be allowed to throw plastics where they like. The waste should be dumped in dumping site. We should keep our surrounding clean and beautiful. We should keep our city green and clean in order to stay healthy.
